After lots of shakeups during the first few weeks of rankings, the Sweet 16 soccer poll has started to settle in.
The top six spots remained unchanged this time, with unbeaten Providence holding the top spot for a second week in a row, followed by unbeatens Charlotte Catholic and Watauga.
One team joins the poll this week, Gastonia’s Forestview High, which will have a home game Wednesday with rival South Point, but will begin a streak of four straight road games Sept. 30 that could define its season. Forestview is No.13.
• Elsewhere, Ardrey Kell jumped four spots to No.9, and Garinger’s magical season continues. The Wildcats, No.5 in the Sweet 16, still are unbeaten. Garinger (11-0) shut out its first seven opponents. The Wildcats have given up three goals entering Wednesday’s game at Independence. Garinger will host No.4 Myers Park on Sept.25 in what might be the biggest regular-season game in school history.
• Other big games on tap: No.2 Charlotte Catholic at No.7 South Meck on Wednesday; No.1 Providence at No.9 Ardrey Kell on Wednesday; No.6 Marvin Ridge at No.2 Charlotte Catholic on Friday.
