Whole Foods opening Huntersville store

Whole Foods plans to open its Lake Norman store next spring in a 35,000-square-foot building now occupied by a Food Lion off Interstate 77 Exit 25 in Huntersville, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The store at 9129 Sam Furr Road will employ 120 to 140 workers, spokeswoman Darrah Horgan said.

The high-end natural foods grocer opened its first local store last summer at 6610 Fairview Road in the SouthPark area. The company has signed a lease for the Huntersville Food Lion space in the Northcross Commons center.

Whole Foods has nine other N.C. stores, including in Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Carey and Wilmington.
