Concord ‘Beat the Devil:’ Modern Film Fest at the Davis will present a free screening of this 1953 film at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Davis Theatre, in the Historic Cabarrus Courthouse, 65 Union St. S. Directed by John Huston from a screenplay by Truman Capote, the movie stars Hollywood legends Humphrey Bogart, Jennifer Jones and Gina Lollobrigida as well as prominent actors Peter Lorre and Robert Morley. Harrisburg Road construction: Construction will begin Sept. 23 to add left-turn lanes on Rocky River Road on both sides of Robinson Church Road. The intersection won’t be closed, and all work will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to avoid conflict with peak-hour traffic, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
