Lenoir police charged five women with attempting prostitution Thursday following a targeted operation at the Days Inn on Blowing Rock Boulevard.
The arrests were made after a month-long investigation during which officers found internet ads soliciting sexual activity for money, police said.
The women met undercover officers and were arrested for attempting to engage in prostitution, according to officials.
Phyllis Moretz, 54, of Hickory; Arlene Alexander, 30, and Kristy Laws, 36, both from Lenoir; Brandy Henley, 31, of Morganton and Teresa Compton, 44, of Granite Falls were each charged and received a $2,000 secure bond, according to police.
Other offenders were identified during the operation and additional charges may be sought. Future operations of this nature will be forthcoming as needed, officials said.
Anyone with information relating to these or other crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 758-8300 or the Lenoir Police Department at 757-2100.
