On a rain drenched evening, a trio of 49ers got involved as Charlotte beat Campbell 3-0 at Transamerica Field.
Charlotte (3-2-1) got goals from Kyle Parker, Luke Waechter and Will Mayhew. It was the first goal of the season for Parker and Mayhew.
We had good balance between our team defending and our offense, Charlotte coach Kevin Langan said. We could have scored a couple more but Campbell had excellent goalkeeping tonight.
The 49ers finished with a 21-7 advantage in shots.
No. 9 Wake Forest 2, Pitt 0: The visiting Deacons scored twice in the first 12 minutes and continued their offensive pressure throughout the first meeting between the two schools.
Wake Forest (4-2-0, 3-0-0 ACC) is the only team in the conference with nine points and atop the league standings.
Wofford 2, Davidson 1: Valeriy Sviderskiys fourth goal in as many contests wasnt enough as visiting Davidson (4-2-1) fell in its Southern Conference opener at Snyder Field.
After a four-hour delay and scoreless opening period, Wofford (4-3-1) struck twice early in the second half to grab a 2-0 lead.
Credit to Wofford, which scored two good goals and reacted better than us to the delay and driving rain, said Davidson head coach Matt Spear.
No. 17 Maryland 3, No. 4 Clemson 1: Patrick Mullins scored on two penalty kicks to hand host Clemson its first loss of the season.
Clemson (6-1, 2-1) had 12 shots compared to 10 for Maryland (2-2-2, 2-0-1). Clemson also had 10 corner kicks to the Terrapins five.
