YORK A York man was arrested for driving under the influence on Thursday night following a hit and run crash, according to a York police report.
A witness helped police track down the driver of a Jeep Cherokee that crashed into a Rock Hill mans vehicle earlier in the night. According to several witnesses, the driver of the Jeep quickly fled the scene, backing out of the road in the wrong way and driving erratically.
Police found Jonathan Paul Brown, 21, on the shoulder of a nearby road where he had just crashed into a guardrail and appeared to be unsteady on his feet.
When police asked him about the earlier accident, Brown said he didnt know anything about it and that his tire had blew, causing him to strike the rail. The officer then told Brown that he had pieces of a headlight from the earlier accident that matched the damage on Browns car.
During a search, police found a glass marijuana pipe in Browns front pocket. Brown denied that the pipe was his but admitted that he smokes marijuana but doesnt use those kinds of pipes.
According to the report, Brown also had trouble with a field sobriety test, prompting officers to test his blood alcohol levels which were above the legal limit.
Police arrested Brown on charges of drug paraphernalia possession, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident. Officers also noted on the report that Brown was driving with a suspended license at the time.
