Charlotte’s women’s soccer team lost its second game to go to overtime this season, 1-0 at Davidson on Sunday.
It was the Wildcats’ first win of the season.
The first overtime closed with a corner kick chance for the 49ers with ten seconds left. The 49ers (5-2-1) and Wildcats (1-5-3) went to a second overtime for the second time in three seasons.
In the final frame, a turnover by the 49ers in the midfield led to a Davidson goal by Jenni Isaac just over the goal with 7 minutes, 28 seconds left. It was Isaac’s first score of the season.
North Carolina 4, Miami 0: Crystal Dunn notched the first hat trick of her career as No. 5 North Carolina ended its two-match losing streak. The visiting Tar Heels improved to 8-2 (2-2 ACC) while Miami fell to 6-3, 1-3.
Dunn scored three times, the first hat trick by a UNC player since Courtney Jones against Duke on October 28, 2010.
Duke 2, Syracuse 2: Duke (4-4-2, 1-2-1) took an early lead on the road, scoring 2 minutes, 29 seconds into the match. Toni Payne took a shot from the right side of the box. Syracuse goalkeeper Brittany Anghel made a diving save but could not control the ball, which deflected to Laura Weinberg on the left side of the box. She put her shot inside the far post.
The Blue Devils added to their lead in the 39th minute. Avery Rape played a through ball to Kim DeCesare. Anghel came out of goal to play the ball, but DeCesare took possession first and lofted a shot over Anghel and into the goal as Duke led 2-0 at halftime.
Syracuse (4-5-1, 0-3-1) cut the lead in half in the 52nd minute on a corner kick and tied the score in the 63rd minute. Anghel made three saves in the final 23 minutes to reach overtime.
Florida State 1, N.C. State 0: The Wolfpack defense held until a well-placed free kick in the 87th minute broke the deadlock.
The Wolfpack (6-4-0, 1-3-0) allowed 29 shots by the Seminoles, but many were from more than 18 yards away due to defensive pressure. Redshirt freshman Mackenzie Stelljes (Ardrey Kell High) tied her career high with eight saves.
Morehead State 2, Appalachian State 1 (OT): The host Mountaineers (3-4-0) got things started early with a goal from Samantha Childress in the 16th minute, but eventually fell to the Eagles (1-7-1).
Appalachian State 1, Belmont 1: The Mountaineers (1-1-5) settled for a tie on the last day of the Lipscomb Invitational in Nashville.
Donovan Japp scored his second goal of the season for the Mountaineers on an assist from Trey Hemphill.
South Carolina 0, Dartmouth 0: After playing 110 minutes of soccer for the second time in three days, host South Carolina (2-4-2) tied Dartmouth (3-0-3) in the final match of the Gamecock Classic.
