Be The Match Walk+Run
Formerly called the Be The One Run, this fundraiser helps patients with blood cancers like leukemia find a marrow donor, supports marrow transplant research, helps uninsured patients with costs and adds more potential marrow donors to the Be The Match registry.
This walk+run features a Tot Trot, 1K and 5K and the race village will open at 7 a.m. at Jetton Park, 19000 Jetton Road, Cornelius.

Yoga with the Chakras
Certified Kripalu Yoga instructor Nancy Nicholson will hold this class from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road. This course will feature gentle yoga, meditation, chanting and relaxation and a focus on the seven chakra energy systems. With an emphasis on wellness and healing, learn how each chakra affects your life physically, emotionally and spiritually. $160 per person, lunch included.

The YWCA of Central Carolinas will host this class from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at 3420 Park Road. Connect with other moms-to-be while learning deep breathing techniques and the appropriate yoga poses for every stage of pregnancy. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes; bare feet are preferred. Yoga mats are available. $15 to drop in.

Walk for Children
The second annual Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech will be Saturday at Independence Parks lower side, 300 Hawthorne Lane. On-site registration and check in will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit apraxia programs and research of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America.

Sickle Cell Awareness Month
Ebenezer Baptist Church and Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas will host a blood drive for Sickle Cell Awareness Month in September. The community blood drive will run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2020 W. Sugar Creek Road.
