Two men were injured Tuesday morning when their car slammed into the rear of a dump truck at a construction site on Interstate 77 in Statesville, according to authorities.The crash was reported about 3:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-77 near the Interstate 40 interchange.The N.C. Highway Patrol says the wreck took place in an area where only one lane of northbound I-77 was open. Crews are in the midst of an improvement project at the I-77/I-40 interchange. Troopers say the dump truck was slowing to turn into a construction site when it was hit from behind by the car.Two men in the car were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center but are expected to survive, troopers say. The truck driver was not hurt.Northbound traffic was diverted off I-77 for about 90 minutes until the wreck was cleared around 5:30 a.m. The crash remains under investigation, troopers say.
