A former volunteer coach at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg middle school has been accused of having a sexual relationship for several years with a student.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say George Mobley, 50, turned himself in to authorities Tuesday night. He was charged with sexual activity by school personnel, police say.
The student said she met Mobley several years ago when he was coaching at her school, according to police. Over a period of several years, they had a sexual relationship, police allege. Mobley gave the girl an alcoholic beverage during one encounter, police said.
Police have not said at which school Mobley volunteered.
Police said Mobley admitted to detectives that he had a relationship with the girl.
Mobley no longer is working with the CMS schools, police said, and there is no evidence other students were involved.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact detectives at 704-336-6030, or information can be left with Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com.
