More Information

A 55-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car early Sunday in east Charlotte and authorities believe alcohol may have played a role, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

At 2:24 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Parkwood Avenue and The Plaza.

Curtina Tyrone Audrey was walking in the intersection when she was struck by a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant traveling eastbound on Parkwood Avenue. Police said Odane Tryrone Grant, 23, was driving that car and Alton George Lawrence, 27, was a passenger.

Audrey was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic at 2:31 a.m. Police say she was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash and there was no alcohol use by the driver of the Mitsubishi, police said.

But alcohol use by the pedestrian is suspected, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit.
