CMPD charges 12 with DWI in overnight checkpoint

Twelve people were charged with driving while impaired overnight at a check point in east Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

The checkpoint was held between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday in the 6700 block of Idlewild Road near Dion Avenue.

CMPD made a total of 82 charges during the checkpoint, authorities said.

In addition to those charged with DWI, 12 were charged with driving while license revoked, 27 were charged with no operator’s license, 5 were charged with drug-related crimes, 3 were charged with open container violations and 23 were charged with other traffic issues, police said.

Matthews and Pineville Police helped CMPD during the checkpoint.
