Garden & Gun magazine invited Laura Vinroot Poole, owner of the women’s boutiques Capitol and Poole Shop, to bring her expertise to its first Jubilee festival Dec. 6-8 in Charleston. (Details: www.gardenandgun.com/jubilee.)

“She is the consummate Southern tastemaker,” says Jessica Hundhausen Derrick, vice president of the magazine devoted to all things Southern.

Poole describes the weekend as being as close to Dixie nirvana as you can get. During the festival, she will present some of her favorite things culled from The Nearby, a free app she helped create that showcases offerings from select boutiques. If you go, expect to see clothing, accessories, jewelry, books and gifts from some of the best shops in the South including Captiol, South in Chapel Hill, Vermillion in Raleigh and Van Jean in Columbia.

In the spirit of Jubilee, we asked Poole to tell us some of her favorite South-centric items for men. Here are six of her picks, and her thoughts on why they’re so great.
