The Sweet 16 is undergoing a major shakeup this week.
North Rowan (6-0) dropped out of the poll along with Independence (4-3) and Central Cabarrus (5-1). Four Observer sportswriters have voted in two new teams and shuffled the order quite a bit from last week.
New to the poll are 4A York (6-0) and 4A A.L. Brown (5-1). York jumped in at No. 10. Brown, which was ranked earlier this season, returns at No. 15.
Since a season opening loss to Concord, Brown has won five straight, including Friday’s wild 55-40 win at Vance. York, ranked No. 9 in the S.C. 4A poll, is off to one of the best starts in school history.
• Elsewhere, Crest jumped four spots to No. 7. West Meck dipped three spots to No. 8. South Pointe dipped three to No. 9. Three teams – Charlotte Catholic, Burns and South Iredell – are tied for 11th.
