A 63-year-old man has been arrested and accused of trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl at a Lincoln County school bus stop Tuesday morning, authorities say.
Ernest Carroll Rose, 63, of Vale, has been charged with felony attempted child abduction, the sheriffs office said. He was jailed under $75,000 bond, authorities say.
The alleged incident took place about 6:20 a.m. in the western part of the county, deputies say.
Investigators say the girl told them she was waiting at the bus stop when a man approached. The man asked the girl her name and several other questions before asking her if she would go with him, the 12-year-old told deputies.
The girl said she ran to a neighbors house, where the residents called 911.
Deputies got a description of the man and said they found him walking along Bill Sain Road. The suspect lives about 100 feet from the bus stop.
Deputies say the girl was not injured.
