SALISBURY – Officers from two counties arrested a Florida man early Thursday on gun charges, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect has a lengthy criminal history, deputies say.
Deputies from the Rowan and Davie sheriff’s offices made a traffic stop about 2:15 a.m. on northbound Interstate 85 at the Peeler Road exit.
Deputies say the suspect, identified as Arthur Louis Francis, 63, of Miami, has a history that includes arrests for armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon and trafficking marijuana. Investigators say Francis gave officers permission to search his truck and trailer.
“During the search, a box was found on the outside of the truck that Francis had attempted to hide during the stop,” Rowan County Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said.
Inside the box, Sifford said, were two .40-caliber handguns.
Francis was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting or delaying officers. He was jailed under a $25,000 bond.
