DURHAM Injured Duke quarterback Anthony Boone will be a game-time decision Saturday against Navy, coach David Cutcliffe said Thursday. Boone has been out since breaking his right collarbone in his throwing shoulder Sept. 7 at Memphis. He is listed as questionable on Dukes injury report.
I wouldnt call it doubtful, Cutcliffe said of the possibility of Boone playing, But Id have to call it questionable.
Boone has passed all the necessary medical scans on his shoulder. (That all looks good, Cutcliffe said.) He also responded well each morning this week to the practice work he did the previous day. The final questions to be answered center around how effective he can be and if his shoulder is ready to take a hit. The Blue Devils, obviously, wont hit him in practice to gauge his readiness. Instead, the staff will rely on clinical tests aimed to gauge his shoulders strength.
Well really see what he looks like (Friday) in as much of a game atmosphere as you can create, Cutcliffe said. And then well know a little bit more.
Boone led the offense to a 45-0 rout against FCS N.C. Central in Dukes opener, completing 16-of-20 passes for 176 yards and rushing six times for 24 yards and a touchdown. Before he went down in the second quarter at Memphis, Boone was 11-of-16 for 99 yards with one interception and 23 rushing yards and a touchdown on two carries.
Brandon Connette replaced Boone and has completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,022 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.
