Virginia homicide suspect arrested in Charlotte

A Virginia homicide suspect was arrested in Charlotte Friday afternoon at the Days Inn Hotel, in the 4900 block of Sunset Road.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Western District of North Carolina Violent Task Force arrested Laquan Wright without incident. The suspect is being held in the Mecklenburg County jail pending extradition to Virginia.

On Oct. 6, the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office obtained a homicide warrant for Wright in connection with the death of Torrey Smith, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Virginia authorities requested help after Wright “fled to the Charlotte area earlier this week” to avoid being caught, the news release said.
