Panthers at Vikings: Key Moments

6:05 left, first quarter

On fourth-and-1 from Vikings’ 32 on the Panthers’ opening drive, fullback Mike Tolbert runs left for 2 yards. It’s the first of two fourth-down conversions in the nine-minute, 29-second drive, which ends with Steve Smith’s 2-yard touchdown catch.

7:33 left, second quarter

Facing a third-and-10 from the Panthers’ 44, Cam Newton gets great protection and throws to Brandon LaFell for an 11-yard gain and a first down. Seven plays later, Tolbert scores on a 10-yard shovel pass to put Panthers up 14-0.

36 seconds left, second quarter

Adrian Peterson runs 9 yards to the Panthers’ 4, but is stripped by cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, who has the initial recovery. But wideout Jarius Wright emerges from pile with the ball, and Vikings get a Blair Walsh field goal three plays later for their first points.

3:14 left, third quarter

On fourth-and-7 from the Vikings’ 35, Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis comes free on a blitz and forces an off-balance throw by Matt Cassel. Cassel’s pass is thrown well short of Greg Jennings, and the Panthers take over on downs.

10:54 left, fourth quarter

On first-and-10 from the Vikings’ 40, Cassel badly overthrows Jennings and is intercepted by free safety Mike Mitchell, who returns it 38 yards to the Vikings’ 21. It’s the second interception for Mitchell, and sends many in the Metrodome crowd heading to the exits.
