David Switzer, principal of Ardrey Kell High School, has been named Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ 2013-14 principal of the year.
Switzer is a pilot in the Air National Guard who served four tours in the Middle East. He came to work for CMS in 1997 as a social studies teacher at Myers Park High, but left three years later for a career in sales. He came back in 2001, saying he missed working with students. Switzer was principal of Northeast Middle School from 2006 to 2010, when he moved to Ardrey Kell in Charlotte’s southern tip.
Each of the district’s administrative areas nominates a principal for the honor. Other finalists are Stephen Esposito of Bradley Middle, John LeGrand of Bain Elementary, Gina O’Hare of Walter G. Byers School, Paul Williams of McClintock Middle, Beth Thompson of Whitewater Academy and Kevin Woods of Windsor Park Elementary.
