Halloween is Thursday, which means this is perhaps the biggest party weekend of the year in Charlotte next to New Year’s Eve – the time when you can make big bucks in costume contests and girls can wear wildly inappropriate attire in the cold – and it’s somehow socially acceptable.

But that aside, I’ve sorted out a long list of Halloween parties for you. I’m even giving away tickets to one!

Blood, Sweat & Tears 6th Annual Halloween Party at Pinky’s Westside Grill (1600 W. Morehead St.): Where ghouls can go wild and get wicked. 8 p.m. No cover. 704-332-0402.

Fourth Annual Nightmare on Morehead at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille (911 E. Morehead St.): DJ Spooky spins the tunes. $5 cover with costume, $10 without. You can win money, with best individual costume getting $250 cash and best group costume getting a $200 bar tab. 8 p.m.-2 a.m., 704-377-3808.

Nightmare on Fifth Street Halloween Block Party and Bar Crawl: Participating venues include Connolly’s on Fifth, Phil’s Tavern, SIP, Prohibition, Ri Ra Irish Pub, TILT on Trade, Roxbury Nightclub, and check-in is at Fitzgerald’s (201 E. Fifth St.) at 7 p.m. $10. 704-516-2674.

Masquerade Ball at Oak Room (200 E. Bland St.): The ghostest with the mostest is hosting its first Halloween party with a masquerade-themed party and costume contest. It’ll be a ball (see what I did there?). $10 cover. 10 p.m.-2 a.m. 704-370-2000.

Music, Monsters and Mayhem at the NC Music Factory (1000 NC Music Factory Blvd.): This boo bash sprawls across eight venues with performances by Cowboy Mouth and Charity Case. There’s a costume contest with $10,000 in cash and prizes. 7 p.m.-11:59 p.m. $15-$50.

The Divine Comedy at 5Church (Fifth and Church streets): Best costume wins a $200 gift card. With DJ James K. Doors open at 11 p.m. No cover. 704-919-1322.

Rich and Bennett’s 13th Annual Halloween Pub Crawl: Sixteen bars are involved, starting and ending at Dixie’s Tavern (301 E. Seventh St.). Best individual and group costumes will win prizes. Registration is 1-2:45 p.m. $25 at, $30 day-of. 704-376-4441. Participants also get access to...

Kiss 95.1’s Gravedigger’s Ball in the Dixie’s Tavern parking lot: The gigantic Halloween party will feature a concert from Flo Rida and is hosted by Kat Graham of The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries.” Plus there’s a costume contest with more than $10,000 in cash and prizes. Gates open at 6 p.m. $20 for general admission, $60 for VIP. 704-570-9595. Or...

Win tickets

You can win tickets to Gravedigger’s Ball! Here’s how: I figure that with such a large purse for the costume contest, people may need help coming up with costume ideas. Tweet me your best costume ideas @brittneycason using the hashtag #GraveDiggersBall and you could score free tickets.
