Charlotte City Council recently approved two rezoning requests by David Weekley Homes for housing in SouthPark and Dilworth. In one petition, the council voted to allow for a new 36-home luxury neighborhood on the east side of Sharon View Road, just behind Phillips Place shopping complex in SouthPark. In the other request, the Houston-based company was approved for a 22-town house community in Dilworth. The David Weekley Homes community in SouthPark, which will be called Avignon, will feature a combination of detached and attached single-family homes. It will sit on 5.22 acres on the east side of Sharon View Road, just south of Sharon Road behind Philips Place shopping complex in SouthPark. These are going to be executive style homes, said Mark Gibbs, division president at David Weekley Homes. Theyll be fairly large, highly detailed, and will have Old World architecture. The property, which was originally zoned for single-family residential units, was most recently owned by Tom Phillips.Gibbs said David Weekley Homes expects to close on the property by the end of the year.City planner Sonja Sanders said the petition was found to be consistent with the SouthPark Small Area Plan. The zoning committee voted 5-0 to recommend approval of the petition, which the city council ultimately followed.Gibbs said the homes in Avignon will target the top 2 percent of buyers in Charlotte. The company was attracted to the property because of its location within SouthPark and its easy access to high-end retail and restaurants, said Gibbs.Town houses will range from 2,400 to 3,000 square feet while single-family homes will range from 3,200 to 4,000 square feet.Pricing hasnt been determined because frankly pricing is moving so fast in our business right now, said Gibbs. But he said the town houses will likely be in the $400,000 range while the single-family homes will be between $600,000 and $700,000.Were excited about Avignon, said Gibbs. Weve already got a significant number of people on our waiting list for this community.David Weekley Homes also received rezoning approval for another south Charlotte neighborhood on Monday.Tentatively called Iverson Way, the property will be on 1.2 acres on the south side of Iverson Way between South Boulevard and Lyndhurst Avenue. It will feature 22 town houses that range from 1,800 to 2,100 square feet. All of them will have three bedrooms and two-car garages, with prices ranging from the high $300s to the low $400s.
