Carl A. Furr Elementary

Fab Falcons: School staff members and parents can nominate teachers for the Fab Falcon recognition in honor of their contributions to the school. Nomination forms are available in the school’s front office.

Harrisburg Elementary

Fall Festival: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 2. Open to the public. Games, food, basket auctions, entertainment and special appearances.

R. Brown McAllister Elementary

Theater presentation: The National Theatre for Children presented a program for kindergarten through fifth grade titled “Showdown at Resource Ranch” Oct. 11. The program is sponsored by Duke Energy with the goal of creating a greener world by educating students on how to conserve such resources as water and electricity and how to be energy-wise at home.

Cox Mill High School

Holiday market and auction: The marching band will host its second annual Holiday Market and Auction 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 7. Vendors, food, silent auction. Santa will be available for pictures. Proceeds benefit the marching band. Details and vendor applications: or 704-787-8702.

Mount Pleasant High

Hodgkin Lymphoma benefit: The school’s AWSUM club is sponsoring events in support of 2008 Mount Pleasant High alumnus Nathan Kindley, who is battling Hodgkin lymphoma. The club is raising money by selling T-shirts for $10 at the varsity home football game Nov. 1. The game will be a “Purple Out,” and all attendees are encouraged to wear purple, lavender or violet. Game attendees can pledge donations to support Kindley based on points scored. A benefit dinner will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the school. Details:

Jackson Park Elementary

Monthly recognitions: For October, the Teacher of the Month is kindergarten teacher Jennifer Van Tighem. Staff of the Month honor is shared by data manager Rhonda Kannenburg and secretary Sharon McKinney.

A.L. Brown High

Yard sale fundraiser: An indoor and outdoor schoolwide yard sale fundraiser will be 3-6 p.m. Nov. 1 and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the school, rain or shine. Concessions will be available. Vendor details:
