Man hurt as State Fair rides disassembled overnight

RALEIGH A worker was hurt at the State Fairgrounds early Monday while helping to disassemble a ride on the midway, state officials said.

The man, 35, was helping take apart one of two Vortex rides, but not the one on which five people were injured last week.

State Fair officials said the man was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh.

He suffered a leg injury, but the extent of it was not disclosed.

Officials did not release the man’s name.

The accident happened about 3:30 a.m.

The incident was being treated as an industrial accident, officials said.

An employee of a Georgia company that operated the other Vortex ride at the fair faces three counts of assault with a deadly weapon stemming from the Thursday night incident.

The fair closed its 2013 run on Sunday.
