YORK Five people were arrested Saturday night after officers discovered an illegal nightclub in York, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
The unnamed club at 318 Sharon Road was operating without a business or alcohol license, officials say.
Officers from the county’s multijurisdictional drug enforcement unit and York Police Department searched the club after receiving several complaints from neighbors in the area about loud music.
Four men and a woman, all from York, were arrested at the bar after police confiscated beer, liquor and $679 in cash. Police also used an underage informant to purchase alcohol from the club.
Patrick Maurice Walker, 43, was charged with illegal liquor storage and sale as well as for keeping a gambling house, according to a Sheriff’s Office report. At the time of the bust, police saw more than 20 people at the club.
Walker had a key to the club and told police his family owned the building.
He also had outstanding warrants with the York Police Department.
“That same spot was a problem 20 years ago,” said Marvin Brown, commander of the multijurisdictional drug unit. Brown said the same location was an illegal bar a few years back but said the county has seen fewer illicit establishments with stronger licensing enforcement.
“We’re doing much better now,” he said.
Rico Jermaine Roberts, 41, was operating as a bouncer at the club’s door, where he collected cash for admission, and was arrested on liquor charges, according to the report. Roberts also had a key to the club.
The illegal club’s bartender, Eddie Dye, Jr., 63, was arrested on liquor charges as well, police say.
Two other club employees, Jatonica Denise Williams, 27, and Jarvis Okeefe Williams, 29, were cited for non-liquor charges, the report states.
Jatonica Williams was charged for unlawfully carrying a pistol at the bar and Jarvis was charged for an outstanding family court bench warrant and possession of Tramadol, a prescription painkiller, the report states.
Police also discovered that the club was stealing water and sewer services from the city of York.
