A few weeks ago was my husband’s birthday, and like most busy, hard-working men, he is very difficult to buy for. After getting him a hammock that is collecting dust in the garage and finding the gift cards I gave him sitting in drawers for years, I more or less gave up.Actually, a couple of years ago I bought what I thought was the absolutely most perfect gift: a beer making kit. That has been sitting on the shelf as well.So this year I decided to surprise him with something he would have to use on a certain day. They always say an experience is better than a material gift, right? So as I feverishly searched online, I came across the Friday the 13th Beer Crawl. “Perfect,” I thought, and I am proud to say it really was the perfect gift. Guys have it easy when it comes to buying for us women. Just go to any mall and you get bombarded with ads and sales of items most of us love. I must give credit where credit is due: A website called www.ConcordFun.com gave me the idea. I scored eight tickets, so not only did my husband get to have a night out, but he was able to take a bunch of his buddies. The hardest decision was whom to invite. So to be fair, he picked seven names out of a hat. It’s funny how those friends, who are usually so busy themselves, were all available that night. I guess no one can turn down a beer crawl. So being the information junkie that I am, I knew I had to find out about this business and how it came about. “After the success of our first two ‘Fun.com’ sites (CLTFun.com and LKNFun.com), we saw there was a need for our concept in Concord,” said Jonathan Burgess, owner of the sites. “So we launched ConcordFun.com in August of 2011.”Like most people nowadays, I do everything online, so this website has become very helpful to me. I can see where kids eat free on what nights, where I can see live music and even where we can get 33-cent wings. “In 2012 over 15,000 people visited ConcordFun.com over 100 times (each),” Burgess said. “These people view ConcordFun.com as a legitimate choice when planning their nights and weekends.”My husband and his buddies had a really good time at the Beer Crawl. It started at the Wine Room in Afton Village. Then a bus took them all to Iron Thunder, Quaker Steak and Lube, Tavern at the Mills and finally Eastfield Pub and Grill. All the restaurants offered drink specials to the group, and the bus was stocked with free beer as well. Even for those who do not drink, it is still a fun night out. So, ladies, in case you have as difficult a time getting a gift for your “other half” as I do, a similar event is coming up in January, called the Bottoms Up Bar Crawl. Burgess told me that this is the third year for that tour, and it has sold out the previous two years. Hmmm ... I may have just found the perfect Christmas gift for you-know-who.
