A former Iredell County resident now living in Indiana has been charged in the rape of an Iredell teenager.
Iredell sheriffs investigators arrested Brett Jason White, 39, and charged him with four counts of statutory rape and one count of indecent liberties with a child. White was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.
The investigation began on Aug. 14 when a report was filed with the Sheriffs Office. The 15-year-old victim told Detective Sgt. Brian Fink that she was sexually assaulted when she was 14.
Fink spoke with White in Indiana, but attempts to get him to return to Iredell County were unsuccessful. The U.S. Marshalls Office in Charlotte was called in to help. Whites name was entered as a wanted person, and warrants were turned over to a fugitive task force to apprehend him, sheriffs investigators said.
