Lincoln County investigators are trying to figure out how a woman ended up injured in the middle of N.C. 150 East early Friday.
Investigators say the victim, Sherry Jo Tobeler, 54, of Denver has told officers different stories about what happened. And they say they are still trying to piece together a complete story about what happened.
She had an argument with her husband around 9 p.m. Thursday and left her home, according to investigators. She was last seen buying beer around 2 a.m. Friday at the Denver Mart at the intersection of Old N.C. 16 and Forney Hill Road.
An hour later, Tobeler was found in the roadway, injured with what investigators described as a severe case of road rash. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where she underwent surgery.
Her Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck has not been found, but a dog that was with her wandered to a home about five miles away from where Tobeler was found, on East Maiden Road.
Investigators notified law enforcement agencies within a 50-mile radius about the truck, which had North Carolina license plate RNW-2562.
Investigators encourage anyone who has seen the truck or who knows what happened to Tobeler to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050 or the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202.
