Hickory Ridge High evacuated after package found

Authorities evacuated Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg after an unattended briefcase was found outside the school, Cabarrus County Schools officials said.

Ronnye Boone, a spokeswoman for the school system, said law enforcement officials moved students and staff members to the school’s football stadium while the briefcase was checked.

“Officers found nothing to threaten safety,” Boone said.

Students and staff were moved back to the school a little more than an hour after the briefcase was found around 8:30 a.m. Regular classes resumed.

Parents were notified about the evacuation and the safety clearance by the Cabarrus County Schools’ automated phone system, Blackboard Connect.
