Freedom Drive to stay closed into Wednesday

City officials say a portion of Freedom Drive closed by a broken water pipe will remain closed until Wednesday evening.

The closure is between Bradford Drive and Toddville Road, or between the 4000 and 4200 blocks.

In addition, some customers in the area might experience low to no water pressure at times.

Cam Coley, a spokesman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities, says crews attempted to repair the pipe early Tuesday, but additional repairs will be needed Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

Coley said the repairs were delayed until 5:30 p.m., so water service to a nearby day care center wouldn’t be interrupted.

Motorists will be detoured onto Toddville or Edgewood roads, and then onto Tuckaseegee Road.
