Want your bridesmaids to love you? Let them pick their dress. Before you have a heart attack, hear me out. Your bridesmaids are responsible for purchasing, altering and wearing a dress for your wedding. Most of you will non-chalantly throw out there that they will definitely wear this dress again, while some of you will refrain from being so dishonest. Take a peek in your closet, when was the last time you re-wore a bridesmaid dress?

If you aren't set on a certain designer or having everyone match, you can give your bridesmaids a color palette and let them pick their own dress. Let them know in advance if it should be short or long, have sleeves or be sleeveless and if they can pick lace or swiss dots instead of traditional satin, taffeta or chiffon. Giving them guidelines with some freedom will help them with their decision and take some stress off of you. It's okay to ask them to send you a photo first.

An even easier way to do this, is to choose black. Black does not vary as much as other colors and your flowers can still brighten this up. And let's be honest, black is classy and everyone needs a little black dress in their closet. My sister-in-law was in a wedding where the bride found black dresses at GAP and bought them for her bridesmaids. Not only does my sister-in-law still wear this dress, but I've borrowed it and worn it, too!

If you want your bridesmaids to match, but aren't a fan of "bridesmaid" dresses in the traditional sense, you can try looking at department stores. Your options will be endless when it comes to dresses and many of these can actually be re-worn. Can't find everyone's sizes in the store? Check online or have the store check with other stores. Lucky for your bridesmaids, these dresses will also likely be cheaper than one purchased from a boutique.

If you still want to tie everything together, pick out matching jewelry and/or shoes for your 'maids. Your girls will appreciate your flexibility with the dresses and everytime you see one of them wearing that dress after your wedding, you'll be reminded of your big, special day.

Still want traditional bridesmaid dresses? They won't mind this either, after all, we're used to being decked out in taffeta, sparkly shoes and curly up-do's. It's what we do for weddings, it's what we do for each other. No matter what you choose, your friends and bridesmaids will roll with it and stand beside of you proudly smiling on your wedding day.
