McCann Sheridan of Jay M. Robinson High was one of 20 student-athletes in North Carolina named a state finalist for the 20th annual Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, officials announced Oct. 30.Sheridan, who lives in Concord, was one of 10 boys and 10 girls from across the state chosen for the Wendy’s Heisman, which recognizes high school seniors for their achievements in academics, athletics and leadership in the community.Sheridan has been a member of Robinson’s football, boys soccer, cross country and track teams. This year, he won the MECKA 4A boys cross country individual title, and led Robinson’s boys to the team championship, the school’s first since moving up to the 4A level.As a junior, Robinson was named the South Piedmont 3A’s conference boys track runner of the year last spring, as well as the most valuable athlete at last spring’s SPC conference track meet. He eventually won both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs at the 3A Midwest regional meet, and finished second in the 1,600 at the NCHSAA 3A state championships. Bill Kiser
