Police make arrest in killing at Wilkinson Blvd. motel

Police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of a 51-year-old man whose body was found Monday morning at a motel on Wilkinson Boulevard.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call at the Airport Parkway Inn & Suites found the victim just after 3 a.m., police spokeswoman Officer Jessica Wallin said. The motel is in the 2400 block of Wilkinson Boulevard, just west of Morehead Street.

The victim was identified as Gerald Kirkland, Wallin said. Kirkland was pronounced dead inside the motel by paramedics, Wallin said.

Kirkland’s relatives couldn’t be reached by phone Monday.

On Monday afternoon, police announced that they had arrested Cremlen Glenn Ogarro, 37, in connection with Kirkland’s killing. He was being interviewed at police headquarters Monday afternoon, and investigators expected to release information about his charges afterward.

Police encourage anyone with information about Kirkland’s killing to call a homicide detective at 704-432-TIPS. Detective J. Redfern is the lead detective on the case, Wallin said.
