Randy Hagler

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ interim police chief now has the job on a permanent basis.

Randy Hagler was approved by the school board Tuesday night as chief of CMS police. He has held the position on an interim basis since the retirement of Bud Cesena last May.

Hagler will direct law enforcement personnel that include sworn officers, detectives, dispatchers, technicians and administrative staff.

He worked with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police from 1979 to 2007, reaching the rank of sergeant before moving to CMS in 2007. Hagler was deputy chief with CMS until Cesena’s retirement.

He is president of the N.C. Fraternal Order of Police and has an associate degree in law enforcement from CPCC.
