Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Chase Blackburn still had a cast on his right foot Friday and said it was “highly unlikely” that he’d play Monday night against the New England Patriots. Blackburn has been bothered by pain in the foot for several weeks, and he aggravated the foot at San Francisco.
Blackburn said the issue started with tightness in his Achilles, but now is confined to the bottom of his foot. He said doctors believe he has plantar fasciitis, and hope the time off will help it heal.
“I’ve been battling with it for a few weeks and I’m just trying to get ready and get right for the remainder of the season,” he said. “(Tight end) Ben Hartsock had this very same issue earlier in the season and did this cast, did it for a while, and it helped him a lot.”
Rookie A.J. Klein started against the 49ers and played well in Blackburn’s place. Dan Connor re-signed with the Panthers this week to help with the depth until Blackburn is healthy.
