University athletic officials released Chris Redding, Charlotte’s head volleyball coach, and assistant coaches Bethany Byers, Chad Esposito and Jay Correll Nov. 18 after the 49ers wrapped up their 2013 season.

Redding posted a 93-110 record in seven seasons at Charlotte, including a 12-17 mark this past season. The 49ers also finished 2-12 in league matches in their first year back in Conference USA.

The 49ers’ best season under Redding – who was head coach at Appalachian State from 1999 to 2002 and was an assistant coach at Florida before joining the 49ers – came in 2010, when they finished 16-15.

While Charlotte didn’t see as much success on the court, it did have some off it. The 49ers raised the most money of any college program in two of the last four years in the “Dig Pink” program, a fundraiser for breast cancer research. Redding’s teams also received the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Award three times (2008-2009, 2011-2012 and 2012-2013). Bill Kiser
