Panthers’ Scott, Hartsock, Blackburn still out

Carolina Panthers offensive guard Chris Scott will miss his third game Sunday, against the Miami Dolphins, and tight end Ben Hartsock is out for a second consecutive week, coach Ron Rivera said.

Outside linebacker Chase Blackburn (foot) also will miss his second consecutive game.

Rivera, while knocking twice on a tabletop, said the Panthers (7-3) can afford to take a cautious approach with the injured players because “the way things are going, you want to be smart.”

Trainers are keeping a close eye on Scott, signed in August after failing the conditioning test in Buffalo. Rivera said the Panthers don’t want Scott, listed at 6-4 and 315 pounds, to re-gain the weight he’s lost since arriving in Charlotte.

“He’s been trying to be very diligent,” Rivera said.
