Wal-Mart employee struck by truck and killed

A Wal-Mart employee was killed in Statesville on Monday after being struck by a vehicle in the store’s parking lot on Glenway Drive.

The Statesville Record & Landmark identified the employee as 48-year-old Tamara Greene Sheppard, of Troutman. She was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center, where she was flown after the slow collision.

Police told the newspaper that the 73-year-old driver of a truck was turning into one of the lanes in front of store when Sheppard was struck.

The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
