A Charlotte man has been charged with burglarizing the home of a Stanly County man while he slept, authorities say.

Richard Corey Mattingly, 25, was arrested Saturday in connection with the theft of a flat screen TV from a home on Ski Pond Road in New London.

Deputies say they were called to the home and told by the resident that someone had come into his house while he was asleep and taken items. Deputies searched a wooded area near the residence and say they found a flat screen television nearby.

Investigators say evidence led them to a nearby home, where they arrested Mattingly. He was charged with first-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of drug paraphernalia, the sheriff’s office says.

Mattingly’s first court date is scheduled for Monday.
