Police: Monroe car accident victim had gunshot wounds

Monroe police on Tuesday sought the public’s help involving a car accident where the victim had gunshot wounds.

At 7:40 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a vehicle accident on Morgan Mill Road at the bridge over the CSX train tracks.

Police said they found Nikita Decoda Bivens, 27, of the 1000 block of Elm Street, Monroe, lying on the sidewalk near his car.

Bivens had injuries from the car accident in addition to gunshot wounds, authorities said. He was taking to Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe and later airlifted to CMC-Main, where he remains in critical condition.
