Former Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, now the U.S. transportation secretary, deflected questions about an FBI investigation of his former employer on a visit this week to Charlotte.
The Observer has reported that hybrid bus maker DesignLine, which filed for bankruptcy in August, is being investigated by the FBI over the installation of used parts on new buses. Foxx was an in-house lawyer for the company from late 2009 until he took his Cabinet post in July.
“I don’t know anything more on the investigation than you do,” Foxx said in a statement to the Observer on Tuesday. “You'll have to talk to the FBI.”
Foxx was in town to speak to the Charlotte Chamber’s annual meeting.
The FBI has said it neither confirms nor denies the existence of investigations. Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Denver Regional Transportation District, which use DesignLine buses, have told the Observer that officials at their agencies have been interviewed by the FBI.
