Morrow named superintendent in Davidson County

LEXINGTON Lory Morrow, who got her start in education as a Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary teacher 24 years ago, has been named superintendent of the Davidson County Schools.

Morrow replaces Fred Mock, who retires Jan. 1 after 16 years at the helm of the system.

Morrow goes to Davidson County from the Gaston County Schools, where she has been deputy superintendent of instruction.

Morrow’s hiring was announced by the Davidson school board Monday night.

She taught in the Iredell-Statesville Schools after leaving CMS but returned to Charlotte seven years ago as principal at Long Creek Elementary. She later was promoted to Executive Director (assistant superintendent) of the CMS North Learning Community before moving to Gaston County.

She was hired at an annual salary of $165,000.

Morrow is a UNC Wilmington graduate who earned her doctorate from Gardner-Webb University. She and her husband have been living in Cornelius.
