Five percent more passengers have used Charlotte Douglas so far this year than last, putting the airport on pace for a record number of travelers, officials said Thursday.
Through October, 36.2 million travelers passed through Charlotte Douglas. That’s up from 34.4 million during the same time last year.
The number of takeoffs and landings is up about 1 percent for the first 10 months this year, increasing to 466,458.
Last year, Charlotte Douglas saw a record 41.2 million passengers, and airport officials expect to break that record this year.
About three quarters of the passengers who use Charlotte Douglas are transferring between planes, not starting or stopping their trips here. The airport is US Airways’ busiest hub. That makes Charlotte Douglas is one of the most heavily dependent major airports on connecting traffic.
