Arrest made in west Charlotte bank robbery

Police detectives have arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with a robbery last Sunday at a bank inside a Walmart store in west Charlotte.

Mario Edward Roane was taken into custody Wednesday at a family member’s residence, police say. He is charged with common law robbery, and police say he confessed to the heist.

Police say two men entered the Woodforest National Bank about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The bank is inside the Walmart store in the 3200 block of Wilkinson Boulevard.

The men fled after taking the money.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police now say they are not charging the other man who was with Roane.
