Huntersville gas fire only a test, officials say

Huntersville fire officials say people traveling along Gilead Road on Monday should not worry if they see a natural gas flame.

Natural gas flaring, which involves the burning of natural gas to relieve pressure, is scheduled until 4 p.m. in the 9200 block of Gilead Road. That is between McCoy and Ranson roads and is near Binnaway Drive.

The flaring procedure could produce a flame of 20 to 25 feet in the air, officials say. Huntersville fire crews say they will be on site with the contractor during the procedure.
