Sip of the Week

Yule Bock, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

$8 to $10 for a 22-ounce bottle.

Because they brew in strict accordance with the German beer purity law, you won’t find any cinnamon or nutmeg in Olde Mecklenburg’s Yule Bock. Despite this, the beer’s crimson color and sweet malt character make it as fitting a “Christmas beer” as you will find. Noble hops assert themselves just enough to keep the beer from becoming cloying, and the beer finishes with a welcome warmness. Find it at the brewery for $7.99 a bottle, or around town at select beer stores. Daniel Hartis
