ROCK HILL Two men who stole shoes from a Rock Hill sporting goods store on Monday ran over the foot of a store manager and then hit his car when he asked them to return the stolen merchandise, police say.

Police were sent to Dick’s Sporting Goods at about 9:20 p.m. after the store’s manager reported that the suspects, who appeared to be in their 30s, tried to steal three pairs of Nike shoes worth $280, but ran when employees approached them, according to a Rock Hill police report. They managed to take three shoes and jumped into a four-door Sedan.

The manager told police he approached the vehicle and asked the men to return the merchandise, the report states. They refused.

As the car was leaving, the manager claimed his right foot was run over by the driver’s side tires, the report states. He did not require medical treatment. He told police the suspects’ car then hit the rear bumper of his brown Chevrolet Suburban.

An employee told police he saw the two suspects in the parking lot and heard one of them shout, “use the gun,” the report states. He did not tell police if he actually saw a weapon. A third employee told officers one of the men wore a black and white leather jacket, and the other wore dark clothing and a black hat. As he approached the men inside the store, he noticed the suspect removing the shoe’s security tag. The suspect handed him one shoe, shouted to his friend and ran out of the store.

Police lifted a fingerprint from one of the discarded security tags, but by Tuesday morning had not made any arrests.
