The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has charged a registered sex offender with new sex offenses after he was found in Michigan, officials said.
David Wayne Latty Jr., 36, has been charged with four counts of sexual offense with a child and one count of failure to register as a sex offender and is being held in Iredell County Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said.
In September, the sexual assault of a child was reported to the Sheriff’s Office. When interviewed at Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center, the child made statements about the suspect and where the incidents occurred, officials said.
During the ensuing investigation, detectives said they learned the Mooresville address Latty provided on his sex offender registration paperwork was fictitious.
During one of multiple attempts to locate Latty, authorities said they learned he was in Michigan. Detectives contacted the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Team in Charlotte, which accepted the case after review.
Latty was located in Bearveton, Mich., on Nov. 25. On Wednesday, he was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center and served with four counts of sexual offense with a child and one count of failure to register as a sex offender.
Latty was placed under a $450,000 secured bond.
