Pipe collapse closes Cabarrus road

A portion of a Cabarrus County road has been closed following the collapse of a pipe, state transportation officials say.

The N.C. Department of Transportation says Gold Hill Road was closed about 11 a.m. Monday after a pipe collapse between St. John’s Church and Rimer roads, about 3 miles east-northeast of Concord.

State officials say immediate repairs are needed. The road is expected to be closed until Wednesday afternoon, according to the DOT.

The detour route is St. John’s Church Road, N.C. 73, N.C. 49, and Mount Pleasant Road.
