Man sentenced in Hickory sex case involving child

A Caldwell County man was sentenced to prison and will have lifetime status as a registered sex offender following a conviction this week on rape charges involving a child, authorities say.

Elmer Edgardo Flores, 21, of Granite Falls, was convicted in a Catawba County court of first-degree rape, first-degree sex offense with a child, and indecent liberties with a child.

The charges were in connection with events that took place last February in Hickory and involved a girl under the age of 12, prosecutors say.

Flores was sentenced to between 12 years and 19 years in prison. He also will be subject to lifetime satellite monitoring, prosecutors say.
